Fez medina

FES MEDINA

The medina of Fes, imperial capital of Morocco, is a pure spiritual centre and world heritage site of UNESCO. Fes is an enchanted city: it’s the biggest medina of the Arabic world and it’s a whole pedestrian area. A wide basin extending to your feet, where thousands people live and work. A city with streets and lanes, alleys that emerge in sudden squares, beautiful madrasas, mosques, minarets and the oldest university in the world, the Qarauiyyin, souq with oriental flavours, infinity of colours, fabrics, carpets, spices, oils, slippers, ceramics, leather artisans and dyers, blacksmiths, tailors …

The city expanded in past times, when Fes was the political, cultural, spiritual and commercial center giving rise to Fes Jadid, where the royal palace is located and in the colonial era to the Ville Nouvelle, the New City.

Medieval atmospheres and modernity mix.
